Closet Confidential Tag

As promised in one of my latest posts, I am completing the closet confidential tag. You can check out Fleur DeForce, the amazing vlogger that I got this idea from. I have to admit, I cant bring myself to start vlogging as to be quite honest I just don't think I would be very good at it. I just know I would make myself cringe and never actually have the guts to post anything, hearing my voice on a Dictaphone is bad enough let alone having to see my face as well so I am sticking with the standard blogging for now.

If you do like vlogging then check out:
Wedges and Weights - Hannah Mills is the best fitness vlogger I've come across
Nics Nutrition - An amazing vlog for healthy recipes
LibbyRoseLondon - My friend from Uni has been vlogging regularly and they are fab!

Anyway... Here it goes!

1. What is the oldest item in your wardrobe/closet?

This is definitely my oldest item! I wore it on Christmas day about 4 years ago. I don't wear it very often at all but whenever I see it I do still really like it and cant throw it away. Its from Topshop and I think the open back is amazing! I am not usually into floral prints at all but this is a little bit different and in the whole 4 years of me owning it I have never seen anybody else wearing it which makes me like this top even more.

2. What is the newest item?

This is a little bit of a cheat as both the top and the skirt are new and I bought them at the same time but this fake leather skirt from River Island is my best new purchase. I originally went shopping for either the black or the nude colour in this skirt but when I tried all the colours on I actually preferred the burgundy. I am so excited to wear this outfit I have been waiting for the perfect event! I am going out with my gym friends (the best people I know) on Friday and I think its the perfect night to take the skirt out! The only issue I have is the waist is a little big but the size lower was tight around my bum (they should make half sizes) so I could only ever wear tops tucked in to this item. With Autumn and Winter coming we have to be sensible and I think this skirt will be great all year round and can be dressed up and down. Basically, I LOVE IT!

 3. What is the most expensive item?

My wardrobe is pretty much all high street and as a 19 year old student I think that is expected. I do have a few designer items including my Michael Kors purse and clutch and some Kurt Geiger shoes but my Gucci watch definitely takes the lead. My mum bought me this for my 18th birthday and it is still the most precious thing I own! As I only have small wrists I didn't want anything chunky and I fell in love with this as soon as I saw it as its just so classic and simple, it will never go out of style. I literally cried when I thought I had lost it but don't worry it turned up, in the middle of the kitchen table (silly me). So, for £465 nothing else in wardrobe even comes close to this little gem.

4. What is the cheapest/most affordable item? (that you wear/use a lot!)

This black jersey dress from Topshop is so worn it is starting to get that bobbly texture that we all dread yet I literally cant bring myself to get rid of it! I think I only paid around £12 for this dress a few years ago but I have had so much wear out of it, its been worth every single penny. I dress it up, I dress it down, I wear it when its cold, I wear it when its warm... I would sleep in it if I could! Ive searched for a replacement but nothing comes close. Im attached and I cant let go!

5. What was the biggest bargain?

I bought this dress around 2 months ago, right in the middle of our heat wave. I have loved the trend for slip dresses for a long time but I thought they were SO overpriced for such a thin, tiny piece of material I couldn't bring myself to pay more than £35 for what is essentially, a nightie. I was shopping in Manchester with my friend from home when I came across this cute navy, polka dot slip dress with a lace hem and cut out section. I bought it from Urban Outfitters on sale for £10 and with my student discount it was £9, every little helps right? can you believe it?! £9! Bargain! I have to say I have really got my wear out of it with all the warm weather, I just hope I can find away to dress it up for the cold weather as its one of my favourite items right now!

6. What was the biggest waste of money?!

This top taught me a valuable lesson, don't always trust Ebay/ Depop. In the past I have sworn by these sights but this is definitely the biggest waste of money for me ever! In the pictures it looked like a completely different top and then I unwrapped it in excitement to find this... To be completely honest, even my picture does it justice. It is literally something a 6 year old would wear and its made out of the most horrendous material that clings to every lump and bump and for some weird reason made my boobs look HUGE! (not in a good way). At least its a lesson learnt and I am now a lot more careful online bargain hunting, its still £5 I will never get back.

BONUS QUESTION - Show us your three favourite items right now!

My Topshop culottes have been an amazing staple item this summer. Perfect for in the evening when its getting a little chilly but still keeping it summery! They are a tad see through so black underwear is not recommended but they look so good with a cute crop top or even a cropped jumper. Heels are a must though! Although I paid nearly £50 for these, I think it was a worthy purchase.

Considering this is a completely person task it seemed silly not to include an item of gym gear. Whilst being at home I practically live in my gym clothes as 1. Im there so often 2. They are so comfy its ridiculous! I have chosen my new bright pink shorts. They are fairly new as I have only just built up the courage to get my legs out but these are great as they don't ride up at all. Can you believe they are from George at ASDA? I think they were £6 if I remember rightly. This is when Mum's come in handy for finding bargains in places I wouldn't even think to look. (Keep and eye out as ive been taking part in the Wedges & Weights Summer Sweat Challenge and will be posting about my experience soon).

Finally, my boots from Topshop. I've had these quite a while now and I was worried they would hurt my feet but they are so comfy I've really had my wear out of them. Its not very often that ankle boots can look good with shorts but these really do, with a cute pair of socks youre sorted for a warm day. For cooler days I wear them with my jeans and find they are really flattering for my legs, WIN!

Why A Closet Clear Out Is So Important!

After chatting to my friend about how great it feels to have a complete wardrobe clear out I couldn't shake my craving to do it. So yesterday afternoon I piled everything out of my wardrobe onto my bed and stood looking at it for a minute thinking... How do I ever say I have nothing to wear! In the end I actually only got rid of around 8/10 items, all things that I still loved but are just too big for me now (always a good feeling). I don't think getting rid of clothes is necessarily what makes a wardrobe clear out so useful, I think every month or so, getting everything out and laying it out in front of you reminds you what you have. I was looking at dresses that had been lost amongst the rest that I had totally forgotten about and tops that I have barely worn but could suddenly think of 10 outfits for them. I have big urges to go shopping quite often but seeing all of my clothes mounted on my bed made more shopping seem ridiculous!

It saved me money yesterday and I now plan on wearing some of my old clothes that have barely had their use and been tossed aside for new purchases.

In honour of this, I decided to wear an older skirt that I got from Topshop a few seasons ago for drinks with my close friend Jo. I have so many skirts and I don't wear them enough. This skirt is a size 10 and after dropping 2 dress sizes I did consider getting rid of it as it now sits on my hips not my waist... Then I remembered what I paid for it and thought 'screw it, I can work with it'. I wore it with my basic black cami which just met the top of the skirt and I really don't think anybody would know the skirt was supposed to be high waisted. In a way I now prefer the skirt as I used to think it was too short! It's very sixties and the black panels add a bit extra. I wore it with my heeled boots and black tights (can you believe it's August). Everyone who knows me well knows that monochrome is my favourite so this outfit seemed perfect for me and I will definitely wear it again, maybe when it's a bit warmer and I can dare to bare my legs out.

So don't write off your clothes if you drop a few dress sizes, try and make them work as oversized or wear them slightly differently like I did with my skirt!

Ladies Who Lunch

I am always proud to tell people how close I am to my Mum, she honestly is the best woman in the world. She is my best friend and I can tell her anything. Its such a shame that not everybody can have such a great relationship with their parents so I definitely don't take it for granted. We take regular trips to fun new places and my mums obsession with Groupon definitely caters for that. This week, we both had a day off together so we decided to use our afternoon tea voucher at The Wild Boar in Cheshire. It was lovely, they provided unlimited tea or coffee (tea for me) with sandwiches and a nice range of desserts. The scones were to die for and there was a cookie that was fresh from the oven and some lemon madeira cake that was so fluffy! There was also a chocolate brownie for the chocolate lovers but I am unfortunately not one of those.

After a cheeky little shopping spree last week I decided to take some of my new items out for a spin. I wore my new Topshop jeans which I was in desperate need of as mine had turned that very over worn grey colour.  I think everyone needs a pair of black jeans as its such a staple item and I would be lost without mine. I also wore a new top which is also from Topshop which I love as the silver beaded section around the neckline adds a little bit extra to the top and means no jewellery is needed. I also wore my River Island flatforms and hand bag and finally my camel coloured hat from Topshop
.

I have decided to try out the Closet Confidential tag, anyone who followers vloggers will already know what it is. Im going to do a blog post inspired by this video tag so keep a look out for that on Monday!
